Reviews
Not sure what all the great reviews are about this place. Our server, Lance, was the highlight of this restaurant. The food was definitely not of Cantonese cuisine caliber, mostly spicy or tangy or spicy.
Lobster was tiny, <1 lb, and heavily coated in starch and dried to a greasy consistency. Unlike any authentic ginger and scallion lobster in a true Chinese restaurant. Fried crab (shrimp) balls looked spectacular, but were lukewarm and greasy. Seafood vermicelli was dry and spicy. Spicy oil chicken was spicy, very, very spicy, barely edible. Sauteed baby mustard greens appeared to be about 8 ounces, but was probably the best tasting dish served. The specialty Beijing duck did not have the skin served separately, but was served scalloped with skin and meat. Not terrible, but definitely not a standout. Portions were embarrassingly small and the appeal appeared to be mostly in the mall setting decor. Lola, the manager, was extremely unaccommodating, i.e./"we have used all the allotted parking validation, sorry pay your own...", "all the tables are reserved" on a Sunday at 5pm? 🤔 Hmmm maybe a free dessert for your inconvenience? Nope, our negligence will be at your expense tonight because we're packed and you're lucky to have a seat at our trendy mall venue. Seems to be the theme of all the "Tangram" eateries. Showy decor, very Disney, just don't come here for the food. Our own fault for having expectations of good food at the mall. If you like super spicy, one-dimensional dishes where you can no longer taste the prime ingredients, you're at the right place. With the high prices of mall lease space and a ton of truly great food oriented options available in Flushing, it would be unlikely that a kitschy Beijing theme and Lola's arrogance alone can survive lackluster food.
The restaurant's authentic interior design transported me to China with its tasteful decor, featuring intricate wooden carvings, traditional red lanterns, and ornate furniture. It complemented the delicious roasted duck, creating a truly immersive and culturally rich dining atmosphere. A perfect blend of exquisite taste and captivating ambiance. Their exceeded my expectations with its impeccable roasted duck. The skin was perfectly crispy, and the meat tender and flavorful. The authentic atmosphere and attentive service made it a delightful dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone craving an authentic taste of Chinese cuisine.
It is an amazing place with traditional decoration. Food is like art, every piece is a carefully crafted work. Qianlong cabbage is very delicious. Every leaf is covered with sauce, which is very delicious. The roast duck is oily but not greasy. Pea yellow is my favorite. It's a delicious dessert. The clerk's service attitude is very good. I was at table 19. XIAOYU and another waiter ( sorry I forgot the name) were very conscientious, patient and enthusiastic in helping us explain and serve the dishes.
Went here wanting Peking Duck. Was in K
Hong Kong a while back on business for about three months. Had Peking duck at least once a week. This place is better. Obviously, I had to wait 30 min for everything to be prepared but those that know, you have to wait for it. The staff suggested some appetizers while I wait and it was delicious. Napa cabbage with some sort of brown sauce and something else I can't remember. Duck was crispy and tasty wrapped in the thin pancake with sauce and leeks and cucumber. So good. Going back whenever I get a craving.
Great Peking Duck. One of the crispiest skin I ever had. I highly recommend this dish. The rest of the dish was decent. Some of the dishes has a really nice plating but the taste was just decent. Really good place to try some Beijing dishes.
The most genuine and delicious Beijing cuisine. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The space was intricately designed and made to feel in a time capsule in the 50’s film set in Beijing. Service was great and polite to guests. I enjoyed every dish. Especially the dumplings and and duck were a must. iPad to order was definitely easier then a regular menu. Each dish picture delivered exactly as presented.
Phenomenal atmosphere and service here with a lot of very nice looking food. The taste could definitely be improved though.
The 口水鸡 (cold appetizer with chicken and chilli oil) was a bit hard to chew, the flavor was also very surface level.
The sour Napa cabbage (醋溜白菜) was a little weird in terms of consistency of the sauce.
Peking duck had a lot of sides and we appreciated the demonstration but the skin was not crispy enough - it felt very fatty to us.
The zhajiangmian had good noodle texture but the sauce and toppings just don’t stand out unfortunately.
I came here for my birthday and had high expectations as my coworkers, friends, and reviews rated this place highly!
For food, we ordered the treasure chest of Peking duck, steamed chicken in sesame chili oil (cold), cabbage in sesame paste, charcoal fried rice, peach tofu, and rice roll covered in soybean powder with red bean paste inside. The treasure chest of Peking duck was amazing. The whole duck was fresh and the skin was amazingly crispy. The waiter showed us how to wrap it and I will probably follow his easy tutorial for the rest of my life lmao. The steamed chicken was a little dry and less succulent than what I'm used to. The cabbage in sesame past was sweet and lil bit of umami, my gf loved it. The charcoal fried rice had eggs, Chinese sausage, pork belly, and squid ink which gave it the black colored look. This was cool but it's taste was underwhelming. The desserts were also delicious and definitely worth trying.
The service and decor of the restaurant was great. The waiters paid great attention to where we were in our meal, and paced each plate at the perfect time. Definitely appreciate the service.
I will be back for future special occasions and was glad to find this delicious spot.
